TEACHING

Most of my teaching over the last 20 years has been at Circomedia, the Centre for Contemporary Circus and Physical Theatre (see Circomedia sub-section). When time allows I teach weekend courses in clown, grotesque (bouffon), physical comedy, mask use and mask-making (see Other Teaching section). Using the large collection of masks that I have made, I offer a lecture-demonstration. I have also delivered presentations to various conferences on popular theatre, street theatre, circus and provocative popular performance (see Writing section).

I started teaching circus skills at Oval House, London in 1979 with a fire-eating course. Later I was one of the first teachers at Fool Time (1986-1992) which was the first circus school in the UK. I have also taught at Bristol University, Exeter University, Middlesex University, Manchester University, Manchester Metro University, John Moores University, Bangor University, Coleraine University, Newcastle Polytechnic, Rolle College, The Jerusulem School of Visual Theatre, Art Imagem in Porto, Anjos Dos Picadeiro Festival in Rio De Janeiro, Belfast Community Circus and Liverpool Hope Street.
